Westminster College was more than a degree for David King '91 — it was a transformative blend of technical rigor and the liberal arts. “Earning a degree in physics with a minor in mathematics taught me how to think analytically and solve complex problems,” King recalls. “But it was the broader liberal arts experience that shaped my values, communication skills, and ability to lead with empathy and perspective.”

Today, Dave, the CTO of Flywire, gives back in honor of the mentors and friends who defined his time at Westminster — professors like Dr. Lightner, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Hickman, and especially Dr. Carolyn Cuff, whose belief pushed him beyond what King thought possible. Lifelong friendships with classmates such as T.R. Warters ’90 and Mike Pesi ’91 remain part of that foundation.

Through their gifts, Dave and wife, Pamela, support the renovation of Hoyt Science Center. "The Electronics Lab in Hoyt was my second home at WC. I spent countless nights there studying, building, and problem-solving,” Dave says. “I want today’s students to feel that same sense of ownership and inspiration — to fail, try again, and build something meaningful with their hands and minds. If the renovated spaces in Hoyt become a place where even one student finds their passion or discovers their potential, then the gift will have done its job.”

The Kings' message to fellow alumni is simple: “Think about the people and moments that shaped your Westminster experience. Your gift can help create those same opportunities for someone else. Whether it’s upgrading a lab or classroom, funding a scholarship, or supporting a program, your contribution has the power to change lives. Giving back is one of the most meaningful ways we can honor our own experience and ensure others have the chance to create their own.”
